Sixty Plus Tuition Waiver

Arkansas residents who are 60 or older can take credit courses at the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith without paying tuition.
 
The Sixty Plus Tuition Waiver covers tuition for credit courses, but you are still responsible for paying two mandatory fees each semester. The waiver makes it possible to keep learning, explore new subjects, or pursue personal enrichment right here in Fort Smith.


Am I Eligible?

To qualify for the Sixty Plus Tuition Waiver, you must:
 
  • be 60 years of age or older.
  • be a legal resident of Arkansas.
  • meet ÌÇÐÄÊÓÆµ admission requirements for your student type.
  • meet the prerequisites or co-requisites for any course you enroll in.
Sixty Plus Tuition Waiver students may enroll as either degree-seeking or non-degree seeking students.

How do I Apply?

Follow these five steps to apply for the Sixty Plus Tuition Waiver and enroll in classes. 

  1. Apply for Admission: Before you can use the Sixty Plus Tuition Waiver, you must be admitted to ÌÇÐÄÊÓÆµ. If you are a new student or have been away from ÌÇÐÄÊÓÆµ for a year or more, you will need to apply for admission before moving forward.

  2. Receive Your Admission Decision: Once you have submitted all required admission materials, the ÌÇÐÄÊÓÆµ Office will review your application and notify you of their decision. The timeline depends on how quickly all required materials are received, so submit your paperwork as early as possible.
  3. Apply for the Sixty Plus Tuition Waiver: Applying for admission and applying for the waiver are two separate steps. After you receive your admission decision, complete and submit the

    Submit your application well before the semester begins. Your waiver application must be received by noon on the payment deadline for the semester to be processed.

    Once approved, your waiver stays on file with the Registrar's Office and applies automatically each semester. You do not need to reapply.
  4. Meet with Your ROAR Advisor and Enroll: Applying for the waiver and enrolling in classes are two separate steps. You can submit your waiver application anytime after you are admitted, but enrollment happens during your advising meeting with the ROAR First-Year Advising Center. 

    You'll be contacted by an advisor after submitting your waiver application. To ensure your courses are eligible for the waiver, your enrollment must occur no earlier than two business days before the start of the semester and no later than the census date (11th day of the semester).

    Important: The waiver applies to all courses you enroll in for the semester, not individual classes. If you enroll in any course outside of this window, the waiver cannot be applied to any of your courses that semester.
  5. Pay Your Fees: The Sixty Plus Tuition Waiver only covers tuition. As an approved waiver student, you are responsible for paying the Registration and Student Health fees. Visit the Fee Pricing and Details page for current rates.

What Courses are Eligible?

The Sixty Plus Tuition Waiver can be applied to any credit course enrolled in during the waiver enrollment window. The following are not eligible:

  • Non-credit courses
  • Audit courses

Frequently Asked Questions

No. The waiver applies to all courses you enroll in for the semester. If you want to secure a seat in a course by enrolling before the waiver window opens, you will need to pay full tuition and fees for all of your courses that semester.

If you enroll in a course before the waiver enrollment window opens (two business days before the start of the semester), the waiver cannot be applied to any of your courses that semester, and you would be responsible for paying full tuition and fees.
